Pupil Premium Grant Expenditure The Government believes the Pupil Premium, introduced in 2011 as an addition to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers. They believe this will ensure that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most. A high proportion of pupils at Penn Fields School receive Pupil Premium funding. At Penn Fields School we are free to spend the Pupil Premium as we see fit and we are held accountable for how this additional funding is spent to support pupils from low-income families. Part of this accountability is we are required to publish, on-line, information about how we have used the Premium to ensure that you, our parents, and others are made fully aware of the benefits to pupils covered by the extra funding. Which children are eligible for Pupil Premium funding? o Children who, at any point in the last six years, have been eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) o Children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months o Children of Armed Services personnel We try to target the funds as effectively as possible and often supplement them from the main school budget which means we are able to provide a wide range of additional resources and therapies that more accurately target the specific needs of our pupils.
