The STAnley First Steps is a series of seven swimming awards specially designed to teach learners aged two years and over the basics of swimming and water safety skills. The awards have been designed by the Swimming Teachers’ Association which is an internationally recognised UK organisation. With this in mind, Penn Fields adopted these awards to help teach our younger pupils their basic swimming skills and to develop their confidence in water. To find out more click or tap the STA logo.

Penn Fields Swimming Distance Evidence 2017
These graphs show our primary aged pupils' STA awards progress in the International Learn to Swim programme. This aims to provide a complete and progressive aquatic pathway for learners of all ages to progress from their first aquatic experiences through to becoming safe and proficient swimmers.
These graphs show our primary aged pupils' progress towards the national aim for all children. This means by Year 6 they should be able to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres. Our pupils continue to work towards challenging, yet achievable, swimming goals according to their physical abilities.
